What Does It Mean to Be an Ambassador for Christ?
Discussions about biblical applications can be somewhat conceptual, but practically, what does it mean to be an ambassador for Christ? As ambassadors, believers are the primary representatives of God. And it’s a serious responsibility. Christians live out Christ’s love so others will feel it and want to know more about Him. This privileged position is focused on the ministry of reconciliation, or change, meaning that believers represent God so the hearts and minds of others will change to follow Him.
Some practical steps for living as an ambassador are focusing on your personal relationship with God and pouring into relationships with those around you.[1] Through prayer and Bible reading, a believer grows to know the love of God more and more for themselves. Spending time with Him changes our heart and life day by day as we gain a deeper understanding of Him. Another major way to be an ambassador of God is to share His love with the people around you. GFA World does this by meeting physical needs in communities across Africa and Asia that have never experienced God’s love before.[2]
One shape this takes is our child sponsorship program. For many years through our child sponsorship program, we have worked to provide basic needs like food, education assistance, clean water, healthcare, hygiene training and more to children who need it most. And by helping the children, communities are also uplifted. Community-wide solutions help end the cycle of poverty, creating brighter futures and changing lives. This investment from GFA workers and donors alike shows the children and their families the love of God and makes them want to know more about The One these ministers represent.[3]
You do not need to be a missionary or worker serving in Africa or Asia to be an effective ambassador. Loving the people around you as God loves you is one way to represent Christ well in this world. This can take on any number of forms: bringing a meal to a sick friend, praying for someone, helping your neighbor carry groceries, telling others about God’s love or donating time or money to a charity.
As you live your life as an ambassador for Christ, please consider investing in relationships by partnering with us and sponsoring a child through GFA World. It doesn’t take much at all―just $35 a month―to help change a child’s life. By meeting his or her physical needs, God’s love and care is revealed in a powerful way to the child and to their whole community.[4]
