What Is the Good News of The Kingdom, and How Does It Bring Hope?
To understand what is the good news of the kingdom, we look to the words of Jesus: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor” (Luke 4:18, NKJV). Jesus’ entire public ministry centered on one announcement: the kingdom of God had drawn near. The Gospel of Mark records that after John the Baptist was imprisoned, “Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel'” (Mark 1:14-15, NKJV). This was not a supporting theme — it was the core of everything he taught and did. The Gospels record this announcement as the center of everything Jesus did. This Good News is the message of hope that uplifts the oppressed and restores the brokenhearted.
Matthew’s Gospel describes Jesus going “about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people” (Matthew 4:23, NKJV). The pattern is clear — teaching, preaching, and healing were woven together. The message and the mercy were one.
Jesus told his listeners he must preach the Good News of the kingdom in every city. He declared “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent” (Luke 4:43, NKJV), and everything he did fell into place around that single purpose.
What the Reign of God Means for the World
The Good News of the kingdom touches lives here and now. When Jesus Christ walked the earth, he forgave sins and restored broken people to wholeness, demonstrating the compassion at the heart of GFA World’s faith. Jesus fulfilled and the Kingdom he proclaimed broke into the ordinary moments of human life.
GFA World equips and sends out national missionaries who embody Christ’s compassion, meeting the practical and spiritual needs of impoverished communities in Asia and more recently, Africa. Whether through sharing the message of Christ’s love, or serving in more practical ways like providing clean water, medical camps, literacy programs or income-generating gifts, our missionaries show how the Good News of the kingdom—how hope in Christ can transform lives. These missionaries come from the communities they serve. They already speak the language, understand local customs, and have earned the trust of their neighbors. A national missionary costs a fraction of what it would take to send someone from overseas, and they stay for life, building relationships that span decades.
Through small acts of love — a well where there was thirst, medicine where there was sickness, a teacher where there was ignorance — lives are changed. These acts touch real people in real places. He met physical needs to open hearts to eternal truth.
National missionaries follow the same pattern. They live among the people they serve and show love in ways that words alone could never achieve. They know the language, understand the culture, and have already earned the trust of their neighbors — making them uniquely placed to live out the kingdom in places outsiders cannot reach.
The Kingdom of God is both already present and still to come. In the meantime, the Holy Spirit empowers believers to carry the values of the eternal Kingdom into every corner of the world. The apostle Paul wrote that “the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17, NKJV).
This means the kingdom manifests wherever God’s people live out his righteousness, bring his peace, and share his joy — whether in a medical camp in Africa or a rural village in Asia.
The power of the kingdom to change lives is not limited by geography or language. It breaks through wherever someone acts in the name of Jesus Christ to love their neighbor, as GFA World’s mission demonstrates across two continents. The work of the kingdom is never finished until Christ returns, but every act of mercy, every prayer offered, and every life changed is a down payment on the future God has promised to bring to completion.
The Kingdom Brings Restoration to Broken Lives
One such example is the story of Radko, a man who, due to alcohol addiction, endured self-destruction, sold household items, neglected his family, and planned suicide at a bus stand. Despite this, intervention by Pastor Adahy through prayer and support transformed his life. Radko stopped drinking, returned to work, cared for his family, and experienced Christ’s love personally.[1]
Radko’s story shows what happens when someone refuses to give up on another person. Real change does not come from advice — it comes when someone stays. Radko did not reform himself through willpower. He met a pastor who did not walk away. That personal meeting changed everything.
This pattern fills the Gospels. Jesus entered situations of hopelessness and brought life where death had reigned — just as He did when He raised Jairus’s daughter and the widow’s son (Luke 7:14-15; Luke 8:54-55, NKJV). When Jesus authority meets human brokenness, transformation follows. A man trapped by addiction for years found freedom — not in a program, but in a person. A missionary prayed with him, stayed with him, and showed him love that refused to quit. Radko is not alone. Across the communities where GFA World serves, similar transformations unfold through income-generating gifts, clean water wells, and literacy classes that open doors to lasting change.
In another instance, a struggling family received a goat through GFA World’s income-generating gift program. The goat provided milk for their children and became a source of income as they sold the surplus to neighbors. This simple gift eased their financial burden and became a turning point for the family.[2]
Practical help addresses the whole person. When a family gains a stable income, their children eat well and their stress lifts. They become open to hearing hope with fresh hearts. Jesus told his followers that the Father knows their needs before they ask (Matthew 6:8, NKJV). A goat — small as it seems — becomes a sign that the God who reigns over all creation has not forgotten them. These moments change the course of a family for generations. The gift restores dignity, opens a future, and tells a family they have not been forgotten.
Across thousands of villages, GFA World’s national missionaries create these moments every day. They do it one family at a time. Change does not sweep through like a flood. It arrives quietly — through a pastor who kneels beside a struggling man, through a gift of livestock that feeds hungry children, through a woman who learns to read.
Each encounter is small, but together they form a growing tide of transformation that no force on earth can stop. This is the kingdom as a mustard seed. The smallest of seeds grows into a tree where birds find shelter (Matthew 13:31-32, NKJV). What begins with one goat, one prayer, one visit, can reshape a village for generations.
Healing Points to the Eternal Kingdom
Healing was central to Jesus Christ’s work on earth. When John the Baptist’s disciples came asking whether Jesus was the promised one, he pointed to the evidence:
“The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them” (Matthew 11:5, NKJV). Every healing was a preview of the eternal Kingdom — a world where suffering will be no more, where God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (Revelation 21:4, NKJV).
The Holy Spirit keeps this work alive today, just as Jesus promised the Spirit would guide His followers into all truth (John 16:13, NKJV). Believers bring both prayer and medicine to places where neither was there before. They reach suffering that words alone cannot touch. These acts of mercy flow from the same compassion that moved Jesus to heal the sick.
In villages across Africa and Asia, GFA World’s medical teams embody this truth, treating patients who have never seen a doctor and leaving behind not just health but hope. In one camp, more than 100 patients received free checkups and medicines in a single day. Many had walked for hours to reach the camp, carrying sick children or elderly parents. For most, it was their first encounter with a trained medical professional.[3]
In a village where access to healthcare was scarce, a GFA medical camp brought healing and hope. The camp provided free checkups and medicines to individuals suffering from untreated illnesses. Patients who had lived with pain and shame found dignity restored through this act of love. Many left the camp not only healthier but also deeply moved by the compassion shown to them.[4]
Medical missions hold a special power. They reach suffering that no words can ease. When a person who has suffered chronic pain for years gets treatment at no cost, the love of God becomes real. Nothing else can match that.
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ guarantees that one day every wrong will be made right, for “as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22, NKJV). Every wound will be fully healed. Until that day, his people offer glimpses of that coming wholeness — a bandage on a wound, medicine for a child’s infection, comfort spoken to a frightened mother.
Jesus told his disciples, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10, NKJV). That abundant life is the promise of the kingdom. It is held out to every person who walks through the gates of a medical camp.
This hope is not distant or theoretical — it arrives wrapped in a bandage, spoken in a prayer, carried in a cup of clean water. Every time the sick are healed, a world weighed down by suffering catches a glimpse of something better.
Share the Good News of the Kingdom
