The gift of a goat can make a tangible difference in the life of a family in Africa or Asia. Goats can provide protein- and vitamin-rich milk to drink and to sell at the market. Here’s how to donate a goat: Select a goat from the GFA World Christmas Gift Catalog, and we’ll do the rest. A family in one of the countries we serve will be selected as recipients. Recipients are chosen based on need and discussions with local GFA-supported missionaries.
Here’s a real-life example: Janya and Kashvi
Janya and Kashvi[1] are both widows living in Asia. They both have many mouths to feed, and it is hard to make ends meet. They are looked down on in their culture because widows are viewed as serving no purpose and are thought to have no value. One of our GFA-supported missionaries saw their predicament and offered to help as much as he could. He had a brilliant idea—goats!
Due to the generosity of people across the world who donated for gifts through the gift catalog, the pastor was able to provide each of these women with a male and female goat. The widows were delighted to receive the gifts! “These ladies take such good care of their goats,” a GFA correspondent said. “It’s obvious that they don’t treat them like goats, they treat them like family members!”
The goats have made a tremendous difference. They provide milk to drink for the widows’ children, and the families can sell the excess milk for income. They can also make dairy products with the milk—yogurt, butter and so on. Some goats can also be sheared to make wool. Janya and Kashvi’s goats are also expecting kids to be born soon! Their family will be expanding!
Goats are not a financial drain on a family. They are cheaper to care for than larger livestock. At GFA, our aim is to set a family up for income-generation, and gifting goats is a great way to do that.
Our GFA-supported missionaries are also there to provide care and prayers to those in their community. We aim to meet both the physical and the spiritual needs of those around us.
