We’ll take it from there! Our national missionaries select recipients based on their need. These ministers live in the areas where they work, so they have intimate knowledge about the most effective gifts for individual families and circumstances. Cows provide ample milk for a family and for them to sell at the market. They can also use it to make yogurt, cheese and butter. When cows are bred, the herd increases, and even more dairy items can be produced. A dairy cow is a life-changing gift since it provides additional, regular income to a family in need.
Kalapi[1] is a great example of the impact of a cow.
Kalapi couldn’t afford to feed her children more than a very basic diet of flatbread. The children lacked the nutrition they needed. GFA-supported pastor Boro visited them and realized he could help. He arranged for Kalapi to receive a gift of a cow and a calf; they were donated from generous people across the world.
The cow and calf have provided stability for the family. Now Kalapi has nutritious milk to feed her children, and they are able to use the animals’ dung to fertilize their crops. Once the calf grows up, they plan to use it to help plow their fields. This cow and calf were truly a life-changing gift for this family.
“I thank God who has . . . blessed us with a cow that provides milk,” Kalapi said. “Now my children are able to eat chapatti [flatbread] with milk. I praise God . . . for helping such families as mine.”
