How Can You Impact Lives when You Give to A Missionary?

When you give to a missionary, you play a vital role in creating a significant impact in the lives of people who face daily struggles with poverty and despair. At GFA World, our missionaries work tirelessly to focus on both material and spiritual needs, offering practical solutions that empower families to overcome hardship and find lasting hope.

Consider Raylea, a widow in Asia who faced overwhelming challenges while caring for her two young children. In her community, widows are often stigmatized and blamed for their husbands’ deaths, leaving them with little opportunity to improve their circumstances. Through a GFA World Christmas gift distribution, Raylea received two goats. These goats became a lifeline, providing milk for her children and a sustainable income as she sold excess milk and raised additional goats. Over time, she was able to afford school uniforms for her children, buy nutritious food and even improve their home. In gratitude, Raylea gave one of her goats to her church, helping another family start their journey toward a better future.[1]

Livelihood gifts such as goats, chickens, cows and pigs offer families the chance to break free from the cycle of poverty. A single chicken can provide daily protein-rich eggs, while a goat can produce milk and offspring that lead to steady income. Larger animals like cows and water buffalo enable families to plow fields, transport goods and produce higher yields from their farms. These gifts not only meet immediate needs but also equip families with the tools to build a sustainable future.[2]

GFA missionaries, including the Sisters of the Cross (GFA women missionaries who’ve received specialized training for ministering among marginalized people), deliver these gifts to some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. Mayra and Neha, widows in an Asian village, were among those who received chickens from the Sisters of the Cross. For Mayra, who had dreamed of owning chickens but couldn’t afford them, the gift was life-changing. She began earning a modest income from selling eggs, which helped her support her family. Neha, a mother of four, used the income from her chickens to help pay for her children’s schooling, expressing her gratitude for the unexpected opportunity. “These chickens are a great help,” she shared, “and they give me hope for my children’s future.”[3]

By supporting missionaries through GFA World, your contribution becomes a cornerstone for resilience and renewal in these communities. Every gift—whether it’s livestock, educational materials or a bicycle—has the potential to transform lives and instill dignity. Together, we can partner with missionaries to extend Christ’s love and create brighter tomorrows for families in need.
