What does a Bridge Builders community partnership look like? It brings lasting change to communities across Africa and Asia through locally-led initiatives that address urgent needs with dignity and hope, creating pathways out of poverty for entire families.
What does a Bridge Builders community partnership look like? Bridge Builders community partnerships through GFA are often initiated by a GFA-supported national missionary from the local area. Because they live in the communities in which they serve, these men and women have the capacity to spot needs that, if met, could make a significant difference to a community. They are familiar with the culture and the needs of the people. They are experts at bringing hope when things look hopeless.
These local workers understand their neighbors’ struggles firsthand, positioning GFA World to spark lasting change and a brighter future from within each community.
Field partners who live among the people they serve bring cultural understanding and trusted relationships that outside organizations cannot replicate, making every initiative more effective and sustainable.
For example, literacy classes can make a life-changing difference for a family in Africa or Asia. These classes can be made available to women or men who don’t know how to read. They can learn this essential skill and be qualified for higher-paying jobs. In the class, they will also learn basic math skills, which are helpful in the marketplace, to clearly understand contracts and so on.
Vocational training and literacy programs give families the tools to build long term stability, lifting themselves out of poverty through dignified work.
Meeting Practical Needs With Lasting Solutions
GFA World’s community partnerships meet practical needs through clean water projects, skills training, sanitation facilities, and disaster relief. National missionaries who understand their neighbors’ challenges lead each effort. These locally-driven solutions create lasting change. They give communities resources and skills rather than temporary aid, ensuring that progress continues long after the initial project is completed.

Another class that has made amazing differences in areas where GFA World operates is tailoring classes. Women (and sometimes men) are taught sewing skills in a community class and then gifted a sewing machine so they can continue to hone their skills and begin a business.
Tailoring graduates earn income that transforms their families’ futures. A woman who once depended on others for survival becomes a provider. She sends her children to school and helps support the local economy, breaking generational cycles of poverty through her own dignified work.
Community partnerships may also look like a water well, providing clean and pure water to a community that doesn’t have access to this crucial commodity. Women and children in many of these communities walk for miles daily to collect water. When one of GFA World’s churches installs a water well, all the villagers benefit from the better health the well water ensures.
Reliable access to clean water prevents waterborne illnesses and transforms community health, freeing families from preventable disease.[2]
These community improvements may also involve a building project, like toilets or sanitation facilities. When a neighborhood has adequate facilities, it keeps the ground water cleaner and, therefore, the villagers healthier, while providing safe facilities for all residents to use.
Clean water, sanitation, and practical skills work together to lift entire communities. When families no longer battle preventable illness and poverty, they gain the capacity to plan for the future, invest in their children’s education, and contribute to the wider community. This is the lasting impact of a Bridge Builders community partnership.
Jesus taught that acts of compassion toward the most vulnerable are acts of service to God (Matthew 25:40, NKJV). GFA World’s approach to community partnership serves those in greatest need with practical compassion and lasting hope.
Disaster relief is another way entire communities are impacted by GFA, often taking the form of temporary shelters, clean water, food or clean-up and care after a natural disaster. GFA World’s partnerships also play out in caring for leprosy patients, widows and other people in need of help.
